Nestled in the foothills and located at the entrance to the San Gabriel Canyon, The City of Azusa, known as the “Canyon City”, was officially founded in 1887. Established as an agricultural township, Azusa was later incorporated in December of 1898 and eventually developed into a closely knit, family oriented community which now consists of over 45,000 residents. Throughout its long and vast history, Azusa has always had the involvement of many civic groups, churches, local schools and businesses. Their knowledge, hard work, and enthusiasm have been essential in the prosperous growth and development of Azusa.
The Volunteer groups in the community have donated numerous hours, funds and services towards the youth, elderly and under privileged. Many Azusans have benefited and flourished from the efforts of these civic organizations and have in return given back to the community. Today these groups continue to help shape the City of Azusa into the beautiful, respected and service minded community we know.
The Canyon City Foundation was established in 2005 with the sole purpose of growing and expanding community capacity. The foundation grants funds to non-profit organizations who are seeking to create new and innovative programs and services to Azusa residents. By granting these funds, Azusa residents will be given the capacity to continue to develop and sustain a thriving community.
