FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The Foundation gives first priority to projects that increase community self-sufficiency and capacity. For example, community capacity may be developed by encouraging new leadership, enhancing volunteerism, expanding fundraising, strengthening partnerships, creating new sustainable programs and other ways of helping people help themselves.

FUNDING AVAILABILITY:

The estimated total of funds available for grants in 2010 approximates $125,000. Applicants may apply for funds in amounts between $5,000 and $25,000. The Foundation encourages proposals with matching funds or other resources.


GRANTS ARE NOT AWARDED TO:

  • Individuals for educational or other purposes
  • Political causes or candidates
  • Courtesy advertising
  • Religious, veteran or fraternal organizations, unless they are engaged in a significant program benefiting the entire community
  • Organizations seeking funding for building construction or other capital improvements

A. Prior to submitting a formal proposal, the Foundation Board invites organizations to submit a Letter of Interest. Please note that you MUST be able to answer yes to all of these statements before proceeding:

    i. Is the organization a government entity or does it have 501.c.3 status?
    ii. Does the organization serve Azusa residents?
    iii. Can the organization ensure that it will NOT use grant funds for any of the following:
    • Individuals for education or other purposes
    • Political causes or candidates
    • A religious, veteran or fraternal organization not engaged in a program that will benefit the entire community
    • Building construction or other capital improvements
    iv. Does this organization seek funding for programs promoting social welfare, education or the arts?

B. The letter of interest should be no more than two pages addressing the following:
  • The name of the organization
  • Describe the kind of program that you envision
  • Describe how it will serve residents of Azusa
  • Discuss how the program offering will build capacity in our community

C. We will respond to all Letters of Intent submitted by April 1, 2010 within three weeks. NOTE: Completed grant proposal applications will be due June 30, 2010.

A formal written proposal for grants must include specific information with respect to the principal organization and proposed project. Any letters of recommendation or other relevant documents must be provided with the proposal.

Canyon City Foundation has awarded funds to community charitable organizations

Nestled in the foothills and located at the entrance to the San Gabriel Canyon, The City of Azusa, known as the “Canyon City”, was officially founded in 1887.

Submit a proposal for a project that will create greater capacity for meeting community needs.
